This artefact is an eight-sided coin or token known as “water barrel coins” circa 1920s. These mass-produced coins were left as tokens for payment of water delivery. The water was delivered to homes in the areas where they did not have the luxury of water and sewer lines. These coins ended their circulation in the 1950s. The photograph features one side of the coin which has “Town of The Pas Manitoba” engraved in the face. On the coin there is a small line under the “A”. The coin features two dots on each side of “Manitoba” that separates it from “Town of”. The verso of the coin shows water, a barrel, and a value of 5 cents. On either side of “1” there is a small decorative arrow. This coin is badly tarnished and one of the 8 sides is chipped. It was acquired in 2003.
