The earliest known member of the Constant family was Joseph Constant who arrived in 1800 to farm and raise cattle after a career working for the Montreal Merchants. He later became the chief for the Opaskwayak Cree Nation. From there, the Constant family have played various roles within their communities, including multiple people who have become chiefs for the Opaskwayak Cree Nation.
