The Honorable Dufferin Roblin was a conservative politician in Manitoba who served as the province’s premier between 1958 and 1967. He is credited for introducing changes to the province’s infrastructure, health care, and economic development including economic stimulus projects up North. In 1978 he joined the Senate under the Mulroney government and served on committees considering constitutional and Senate reform.
Premier of Manitoba. The grandson of another Manitoba premier, Rodmond Roblin, “Duff” Roblin served as the 14th premier of Manitoba from 1958 to 1967. During that time he oversaw the construction of the Winnipeg Floodway, also known as “Duff’s Ditch”. Though he was criticized at the time for the initiative, it has since saved the city of Winnipeg from flooding numerous times, most notably in 1997. He later became a Canadian senator.
