The Young family are another prominent family from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation. Family members have fulfilled a number of important jobs throughout the band’s history including serving as councillors, soldiers, and interpreters. The Young family is also well known for their role as medicine people within their community, preserving traditional knowledge of medicine. Dr. Josiah Young was one such medicine man. He rejected the treaty terms, preferring to live separate from the community. Young employed traditional medicinal techniques to heal people both from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and the town.
